The annual elections take place in November, in parishes where there are vacant douzenier and constable seats.
More than 30 posts are up for election and the only stipulation is that a candidate lives in the parish in which they are standing for election and they are on the electoral roll.
Although parish politics is at the heart of Guernsey life, many people do not know what their elected representatives do.
Douzeniers meet regularly to carry out essential parish administration and duties, including the traditional branchage, where tree growth overhanging roads is checked and measured.
The role is involved and an information session in the Beau Sejour foyer has been laid on this morning, 26 September, so that those considering election can talk to parish representatives about their experiences.
Parish elections, unless deferred, will take place on 4 November 2026.
