La Moye prison is appealing for volunteers who can help rehabilitate inmates.
The jail is looking for islanders who can teach reading, numeracy, home maintenance and first aid, among other skills.
Prison governor Nick Cameron says they are looking at ways they can help prepare prisoners for release and reduce re-offending.
“The prison is part of Jersey and its prisoners both come from and return to that community. I am keen to use the wealth of skills, experience and support that volunteers might bring to assist offenders.”
There are opportunities to offer one-to-one support for individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Training will be provided. Volunteers will need to be cleared by prison security. Anyone interested should call Dr David Holmes on 441886.
