Masks To Be Mandatory In Bus Station

All people, apart from those in exempt groups, will have to wear a mask or face covering when going into the bus station from Monday 26 October.

Anyone who doesn't will be asked to leave - unless they are under the age of 11, have a related disability or breathing difficulties.

It follows the government push for more people to wear masks inside public spaces.

Staff walking through the station will also have to wear one, but those behind the customer service desk won't have to because they're behind a shield and more than a metre away from customers.

Drivers will still have the choice as to whether to wear one or not, as they are a metre away and have limited time with customers. It's also so drivers don't have anything blocking their vision when driving.

"We are fully on board with Government and supporting their strongly recommended advice of wearing a face-covering in indoor public spaces as we want to ensure our staff and customers remain as safe as possible.

"As the number of cases in Jersey has remained extremely low, confidence in catching the bus has increased, and over the last 7 weeks we have been carrying around 65% of our normal winter loadings, albeit this is only in the region of 50% of what we would normally see at this time of year.

All bus drivers will have masks to sell and they are also available at the Customer Service desk.
