States chief exec admits it is a 'challenging' time at Guernsey Prison.
The announcement of the retirement of Guernsey's prison governor was made public just before the weekend (Friday 21) but scant details are known.
John de Carteret had been prison governor for some time, but in April this year stepped aside while an investigation into allegations over conduct was begun.

It is unclear whether that has concluded.
Until recently, prison staff in the Unite union were working to rule over pay and terms and conditions.
The States chief executive, Boley Smillie, says he will support the prison through a difficult time:
"Guernsey Prison is undoubtedly going through a challenging period and it is very clear to me that improvements are needed in a number of areas.
"Following the Prison Governor’s decision to retire, my focus will be on supporting the Committee for Home Affairs in appointing a successor.
"I want to recognise the difficult circumstances in which colleagues at the Prison have been and are currently working in, and the professionalism and commitment they continue to show in delivering this important front line service."
