13 people in Jersey were affected by contaminated pooled blood products in the UK transfusion scandal.
Jersey's government has confirmed this in a recent Freedom of Information request, asking:
- How many people in Jersey were affected by the blood transfusion scandal?
- How many of the transfusions lead to the death of the patient?
In the UK, thousands of people in the 1970s and 1980s were given transfusions of blood that had been contaminated with infections such as HIV or Hepatitis.
Health and Community Services (HCS) said it is 'aware of 13 patients who were affected'.
However, it stated that 'transfusion-related infection is not documented as a cause of death in those that have passed away'.
