Swimarathon Raises £65,000

This year's Swimarathon has raised almost £65,000 for Jersey charities working with young people.

283 teams took to the Les Quennevais Pool over five days -though entries were down by a third to their lowest number in a decade.

Some schools had to withdrew last minute because of Covid.

Organisers say they are thrilled with the result, after having to cancel 2020's event and push this year's back from its usual March spot.

Participating teams swam a total 15,986 laps.

“We have a well-established programme for organising the event but that has completely changed this year as we have always had to have a Plan A, a Plan B and a Plan C.

It’s been an enormous amount of work and I have to admit there were times when I wondered if it would happen, but we are absolutely over the moon with how well it has gone.

The teams have been brilliant, they have followed all the guidelines but have enjoyed every minute and their reaction has made it all worthwhile. We want to thank every single swimmer for their support, the volunteers for giving up their time, the management team at Les Quennevais for going over and above and, of course, our sponsor Ravenscroft for being a fantastic partner.” - Organising committee chairman Lion Steve Taylor..

The money raised will be split between five main beneficiaries - Brighter Futures, Brightly, Jersey Youth Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust and YouMatter – and the Jersey Lions charity account.
