The new Minister for Infrastructure wants to consider an alternative approach to the proposed one-way scheme along St John's Road.
Constable Andy Jehan has asked transport officers to review other options.
In June 2023, the then Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet proposed a trial run in the summer before making the one-way change permanent.
It would have seen motorists heading towards town (southbound) directed to use Tower Road and Westmount, with the lower part of the road - between Parade Road and Cheapside - become northbound only.
The trial was pushed back to autumn of last year to allow officials to gather more information about air quality and traffic data, then postponed once more because of 'unforeseen labour issues'.
Now, Constable Jehan wants to look at alternative implements including southbound.
It is hoped any new proposals for a trial will be ready for this summer.
