Little islanders now offered free chickenpox vaccine

Parents in Jersey can now protect their babies and toddlers from chickenpox for free with a new vaccine.

Children will receive the MMRV vaccine in two doses, at 12 and 18 months, which will also protect them against measles, mumps, and rubella.

Jersey's Public Health Department is following NHS England in the rollout, with officials in the UK suspecting that this will reduce the time parents take off work and will also help to protect children from serious complications associated with the highly contagious viral diseases.

The MMRV vaccine will be administered as part of the Childhood Immunisation Programme, which is offered free of charge.
