A dedicated ward for women at Jersey's General Hospital has reopened this week following a £2 million refurbishment.
Rayner Outpatients Department now has a specialist area with two medical treatment rooms and three consultation rooms.
The dedicated gynaecology ward closed almost six years ago, and care moved to a mixed general-surgery area.
Now, a 'Female Surgical ward', which has 10 surgical beds, and an outpatients' department, £2 million has been spent bringing it up to standard.
Assistant Health Minister Deputy Andy Howell says it is great to see it up and running again and that it is 'really wonderful for women and girls'.
"It's been really badly missed.
"It's something that we need, and it's really special to be able to have nurses who are dedicated in this area as well.
"The entire ward has been refurbished and redecorated, and it now looks fantastic.
"We have got new flooring, lighting, ceilings, and it meets modern infection control standards."
The refurbishment of the gynaecological ward was originally delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Last March, consultant gynaecologist Neil MacLachlan called for the ward's reinstatement, to ensure women admitted to his hospital for abortions or miscarriages were cared for in sensitive surroundings and by specialist staff.
