Jersey churches host free Christmas events in the Royal Square

Jersey churches are hosting a free carol service and Christmas Fayre in the Royal Square this week.

11 Churches are joining forces to host ‘Step Into Christmas’, a free public event welcoming islanders of all ages to take part in Christmas activities.

This year, it includes an evening carol service in the Royal Square today (18 December), and an all-day Christmas Fayre on Saturday (20 December).

At 6.30pm this evening, a carol service will be accompanied by a live band. It's hoped hundreds of voices will fill the square during late-night shopping hours.

The event will finish at 8.30pm.

Then, on Saturday, the Step Into Christmas Village will host free activities and live music between 10am and 5pm.

In the nativity grotto, children can take part in a live theatre experience and meet the characters from the nativity story. There will also be a kids’ colouring competition, magic trick shows, hot drinks & food, and more.

Gregg Donaldson, lead organiser and pastor of Lighthouse Church, says Jersey needs a big community event that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.

"It is so great to get everyone together.  I am really excited about these next few days.

"This is us giving back the community. We are trying to make it accessible to everybody so there is no pressure at all on anyone.

"There are all sorts of health and emotional benefits to singing together in a crowd, so we are going to try to get hundreds of people together to sing carols  - with  some mince pies.  Just a wonderful community event."

All activities, drinks, and food will be provided free of charge.
