Jersey is set to be hit by 90 miles per hour winds, with the advice to islanders to stay indoors during the peak of the storm.
Jersey Met is continuing to monitor Storm Goretti, which is bringing storm Force 10 winds and heavy rain to the Channel Islands, the UK and northern France.
Latest forecasts suggest the strongest winds will hit the island from 6:00 pm on Thursday until Friday morning (8 to 9 January).
The government advises islanders that they should stay at home during the peak of the storm, which will be from 8:00 pm until dawn.
Coastal areas are also at risk as the high tide is at 10:00 pm, with significant waves forecast.
Jersey's RNLI has also issued a warning to people over the next couple of days, telling people to 'keep well back from the water'.
The emergency service says if you find yourself in trouble, lie back, spread your arms and legs, and try to relax.
During Storm Ciaran, which was dubbed the second Great Storm, islanders were told to remain inside by Jersey's Chief of Police.
In 2023, it brought hurricane-force 12 winds and gusts reaching 120 miles per hour.
