Headteachers Accept Revised Pay Offer

School leaders have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a revised pay deal from the States Employment Board.

93% of NAHT members voted to accept a 7.9% pay uplift, backdated to 1 January 2023, which has been offered to all other public sector workers, including doctors, nurses and civil servants.

Headteachers will also receive a one-off payment worth around 2.5%, which will be paid for by the Education Department from the 'Education Reform Allowance'.

The government has also pleaded to reduce their workloads, and 'address the impacts' of changes to school leader's roles.

General Secretary Paul Whiteman says the result is a testament to the union members.

"It must however be just the start of a journey to restore the education profession as an attractive proposition and to ensure all schools have the staff they need to deliver the education children on the Island deserve."

The teachers union the NEU remains in dispute with the SEB and plans to strike on 14, 15 and 16 November.
