Island Energy says there was a minor gas leak in St Helier, but it posed no safety risk.
Many residents were taken to St Saviour Parish Hall while the investigations continued.
Jersey Fire and Rescue and States of Jersey Police have been at the scene along with Island Energy.

In a statement, Island Energy said:
"No readings were found that would have required an evacuation of the building. The team carried out an extended search beyond the perimeter and found a minor gas escape that posed no safety risk which the team are dealing with.
"We would like to take this opportunity to remind Islanders that if they smell gas or suspect a gas escape to call our 24-hour emergency line on 01534 755555."
