Dreaming Trees Draws 30,000 Visitors

More than 30,000 people went to see the Dreaming Trees in Howard Davis Park.

The illuminations drew 7,000 visitors on the last night alone.

The free-entry event ran for the week of half-term (12-19 February) and was inspired by research into how trees communicate.

It was the island's first park illuminations event, and it was well-received by people of all ages.

Dreaming Trees was organised by the Parks and Gardens team within Infrastructure, Housing and Environment, and was supported by the Creative Island Partnership and sponsors Rathbones Investment Management International.

It was inspired by the work of Dr Suzanne Simard, leader of The Mother Tree Project and author of Finding the Mother Tree, whose scientific research has demonstrated how trees communicate over a ‘Wood Wide Web’.

Bruce Labey, Senior Operations Manager of Parks, Gardens and Cleaning Services, explained the project:

He said he hoped a park illuminations could become an annual feature of the island's events calendar.

"We hope this will be the first in an annual series of light installations during February, and who knows, it could grow into a light festival for Jersey."
