Contractors have been appointed to design the reconfiguration of Elizabeth Harbour.
Ports of Jersey has signed a contract for the design of the work that will rearrange the harbour to increase freight capacity.
It is part of the St Helier Harbour Master Plan.

A delivery team lead by VolkerFitzpatrick, VolkerStevin and Geomarine with specialist supply chain partners Arup and Boskalis was selected following a procurement process.
It signals the start of the design phase that paves the way for work to start in autumn 2026. The project is then expected to take until winter 2028.

"Our delivery partners are now working on the detailed design for the construction work that will reconfigure Elizabeth Harbour. This will inform exactly how we will manage the construction when work starts next year.
“The Harbour Master Plan is an incredibly exciting project, providing much needed investment in critical island infrastructure, as well as supporting economic growth and providing an improved experience for our passengers.”
John Cox, Managing Director at VolkerStevin, has described it as once-in-a-generation, technically complex and ambitious project that will 'bring long-term benefits to Jersey’s economy, community, and sustainable future, leaving a lasting legacy for the island.'
Geomarine, the Jersey partner on the project, says it will ensure as much operational delivery and consultancy remains on-island as possible and that its apprentices will benefit from being involved in a project of this scale.
The work on the harbour will involve the creation of a suspended deck to bring together the LoLo and RoRo freight operations.
This will require some reclamation and dredging, and the construction of a concrete wall and revetment to absorb wave energy and protect against erosion.
Once that is finished, cranes and forklifts can be moved from the North North Quay to the suspended deck at Elizabeth harbour.
Eventually, Elizabeth Terminal will also be replaced to improve facilities for passengers.
