Co-op stores in the Channel Islands are over the worst of supply issues, and are in a 'recovery phase' after a cyber attack on the company in the UK shut down delivery systems.
CI Co-op CEO Mark Cox has apologised to customers and members that they aren't 'looking their best' following a cyber attack on the retailer in the UK more than a week ago that meant systems had to shut down 'for protection'.
He says the issues experienced since last Tuesday are largely 'out of their control', but that colleagues are working 'as hard as possible' to recover supply. Mr Cox told us:
"Part of the measures they undertook to manage that situation was they had to close a number of systems down.
"That affected deliveries and stock that would normally come through to us in the Channel Islands."
Many shelves in CI Coops have near-empty for the past week.
"We're working hard to try to recover that situation, but it is going to take a few days.
"This week we are expecting to see that, day by day, the situation will improve.
"We are in a sort of recovery phase with the group in the UK - their systems have now been stood back up, so we expect everyday that the flow of product will improve.
"Hopefully by the end of the week we'll be in a really good place."
The difficulties have led to low stock at other supermarkets too, as shoppers have gone elsewhere for their groceries.
The flow of products is set to recover 'day by day' this week.
Following a cyber attack on M&S last month, The UK Co-op Group was targeted by the same cyber criminal group, ‘DragonForce.’
The group claims to have stolen the personal details of 20 million people in the UK in the hack.
Marks and Spencer has admitted that some personal data of customers was taken by hackers in its recent cyber attack, though it says this does not include useable payment details of passwords.
Personal data given to the CI Co-op has reportedly not been compromised, as the details are not held directly by the UK Group.
