A cocaine importer has been jailed for six years and nine months by Jersey's Royal Court.
37 year old Robert Martin Allan from Dumfries tried to bring almost 100 grams of the Class A drug with an estimated street value of £25,000 into the island in September on a flight from Glasgow.
He was stopped by Customs Officers, and told them he was visiting the island for around two days. He said it was his first visit to Jersey, and that he didn't know anyone here.
He had a single ticket and only £35 on him.
Swabs of his baggage tested positive for cocaine, and a CT scan showed he had seven packages concealed internally.
During interview, Allan claimed he had drugs debts of around £1,000 had been threatened by three Albanians in Dumfries to carry out the importation to clear what he owed.
Paul Le Monnier, Senior Manager at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, said: “Drug importations cause serious harm to our community and fuel organised crime.
"It is not uncommon to encounter individuals importing drugs to clear their debts, but their involvement is no less accountable, and they should expect to receive severe sentences for their role”.
