Care Inquiry Panel Wants Islanders' Opinions

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry Panel is asking if children are safer now than two years ago.

The panel that investigated abuse in the care system has launched its website and wants islanders to come forward to tell them what's changed, and what still needs to be done.

Frances Oldham QC and the panel will be back in the island for a week next month to review the progress that's been made in tackling the 10 failings exposed by its 2017 report.

Its website that's gone live today explains what it will be doing and how you can voice your opinion - by private meetings, anonymous surveys and public forums.

The panel says it has already started work and will provide a report in July giving its verdict on what progress the government has made in improving services for families, children and young people.

Alyson Leslie from the panel says they want to hear first-hand from islanders:

"We want to hear from people working with children, people receiving services and members of the public in Jersey.

"People can ask to meet privately with us, can take part (anonymously) in a survey or sit in on our public discussions with professionals, politicians and voluntary organisations.

"We look forward to engaging again with people in Jersey and finding out what has changed and is changing to keep children in the island safe."

The panel will be back in the island between the 13-20 May to conduct their review and present a report with its findings this summer.
