England netballer Serena Guthrie has taken the top honour at Jersey’s first ever Sport and Active Living Awards.
She took the Sporting Performance of the Year trophy for helping the national side win gold at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
She couldn’t be at the Royal Yacht last night to collect it, but sent a video message saying “I feel extremely proud to have won this award, there are so many great athletes in Jersey currently representing the island on so many levels.”

She also paid tribute to her Jersey coach Linda Andrews.
GB shooter Cameron Pirouet took the under 21 title after his fourth-placed finish at the Commonwealth Games and bronze win in his European Championships debut.
Jersey Reds’ fixtures secretary Kate Innes was made Volunteer of the Year and Grainville picked up the active school prize.
Jersey Parkrun was also honoured as Active Living Group of the Year.
The Lifetime Achievement trophy went to Gordon Burgis for decades spent overseeing the Hobie fleet and running the racketball league.
The night’s other winners included Nathan Jegou (Coach of the Year), Calligo Tigers (Sports Organisation of the Year), Accuro (Active Workplace)
Seven local legends have been inducted into a new Hall of Fame.
There are Colin Campbell, Elizabeth Cann, Tommy Horton, Graeme Le Saux, Simon Militis, Dot Macready and Harry Vardon.
The RaceNation Sport and Active Living Awards has been introduced by Jersey Sport for 2018 to celebrate local sporting successes and recognise efforts to increase levels of physical activity.
