An ambitious project has been launched to build a social skills respite home on the site of Mont a l'Abbe school.
The charity Variety has already pledged money towards it, with £1.5million needed over the next three years to make it happen.
It is fundraising on behalf of the Friends of Mont L'Abbe, a registered charity which raises money for children who attend the school.
The project was launched by Variety charity ambassador Sandra Auckland at the 2026 CISI Jersey Branch Annual Dinner at the Royal Yacht.
Ms Auckland says a general lack of respite provision needs to be addressed.
At last year's gala dinner, Variety launched another project to raise money to build an all-inclusive playground at Mont a l'Abbe.
£500,000 was raised, and building work has now started, with specialist equipment now on-island and set to be installed soon.
Ms Auckland added:
"We believe that no child should be left on the sidelines, and through this project we will ensure that children of all abilities can share in the joy of play, learning, and friendship.
