Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) hopes putting sanitary bins in men's toilets will enable more men with incontinence to confidently continue their everyday lives.
Prostate Cancer UK says 1 in 25 men over 40 will experience some form of urinary leakage every year, and 1 in 20 men over 60 will experience bowel incontinence.
To allow these men to confidently go to work and socialise, sanitary bins have become commonplace in
men's toilets across the UK.
Jersey's government installed bins in all men's public toilets in August 2023.
MUG says the facilities in Guernsey are inadequate, so it is taking action.
The charity has bought 50 sanitary bins that will be placed around the island.
Charity spokesperson Ian Brown hopes the States will fund more:
"For this to make a perceivable difference there has to be hundreds of bins.
So a man that has incontinence issues, that's probably a little bit embarrassed or anxious, can go and enjoy the outdoors or go to town for a coffee knowing that there is a facility for him should he need to discreetly change a pad."
