Alderney Offers Free Moorings

Alderney is now open to boats visiting from within the Bailiwick – and to celebrate free Braye Harbour moorings are being offered for the rest of the season.

With life on the Island returning almost to normal under Phase 5 of the Covid-19 exit strategy, other islands in the Bailiwick can experience Alderney by visiting by sea.

“We’re delighted to offer free moorings in our charming Braye Harbour for our Bailiwick boating friends,” said Alderney’s Harbour Master, John Taylor.

“Our friendly harbour offers secure moorings, a wide range of facilities including showers, toilets, laundry, engineering and chandlery, fuel and duty free goods.”

Director of Tourism Helene Turner added: “Alderney's surrounding waters provide an exciting playground for sailors within just two or three hours of very pleasant sailing from Guernsey, Sark or Herm.”

There are around 70 yellow visitor moorings that normally cost £20 a night, and a water taxi that is also free for the summer season.

When sailing around Alderney, specifically Burhou Island, mariners should be aware that there is a voluntary ‘Puffin Friendly Zone’ to help protect the puffin colonies.

Alderney is welcoming a growing number of visitors from within the Bailiwick as its hotels, pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops, guest houses, holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation begin to rediscover the Bailiwick’s enthusiasm for an escape without self- isolation restrictions.

“We don’t have crowds or traffic jams here,” added Helene. “Alderney offers a friendly, peaceful and relaxing escape where children can roam free on our fabulous beaches. And every visitor is helping our island’s family-run businesses to recover from the hit of lockdown while enjoying a much needed break, fabulous food and beautiful scenery.”

There have been no positive cases of Covid-19 on Alderney and throughout the entire crisis, the island has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with ‘Guernsey Together’ and forged an ever- closer working relationship with the other Bailiwick islands.
